The European representatives ask for a moratorium on nano-food and cloned meat labelling.
The projects to encourage food innovations with a new simplified authorisation procedure for new food, have been approved by the Environmental Commission. Although the representatives have modified the text and proposed a moratorium on the use of nano-materials in food, based on the precautionary principle. They have added also measures for a compulsory labelling of cloned food.
The draft legislation approved by 57 votes, 4 votes against and 2 abstentions, determines the deadlines and clear definitions for the global marketing process of a new food item.
